Northern Line Overcrowded

For reasons unknown to me, the Northern Line was overcrowded yesterday. I tried getting on the line from Moorgate station, but seeing the crowd, and being held back at the escalators, I decided to take the circle line and join the Northern Line at King's cross station.

This is what I encountered at the entrance to the escalators for the Northern line!
